# Printer Driver Not Found
“Printer driver not found” usually appears right after a Windows update, a new PC setup, or when you plug in an older printer Windows no longer recognizes from its built-in database. The printer may show in Devices and Printers with a yellow warning, or Windows may refuse to add it at all.
This is almost always a driver problem — not a cable, WiFi, or hardware failure.
Why Windows Can’t Find the Driver
Windows looks for drivers in three places: its own driver store (updated with Windows Update), Plug and Play detection over USB, and whatever you install manually. When all three fail, you get “driver not found.”
The most common triggers:
Windows Update replaced your manufacturer driver with a generic version that doesn’t fully support your model — especially on HP OfficeJet, Canon PIXMA, and Epson EcoTank all-in-one devices.
The manufacturer removed the driver page for discontinued models. HP LaserJet 1020, Canon MG series, and older Brother MFC printers are frequent examples. Windows 11’s built-in search won’t find a driver that HP.com no longer hosts.
The wrong driver package was installed — a basic print-only driver when your all-in-one needs the full package with scan modules (TWAIN/WIA).
How to Fix It
Step 1: Remove the broken driver completely. Open Device Manager, find your printer, right-click → Uninstall device. Check “Delete the driver software for this device.” Also open Print Server Properties (Settings → Printers → Print server properties → Drivers tab) and remove any leftover driver entry.
Step 2: Install the correct official driver. Download from the manufacturer’s support site — not a third-party driver updater. For discontinued models, you may need an archived driver version that still works on Windows 11.
Step 3: Verify print and scan. After installation, print a test page. If it’s an all-in-one, open Windows Scan or your manufacturer’s app and confirm the scanner is detected too.
PrintPro automates this sequence: it detects your printer model, matches the correct OEM driver from manufacturer sources, and installs print and scan modules in one pass — including drivers for discontinued models no longer on manufacturer websites.
